Description :
Today La Joya detention centre in Panama is faced with the biggest challenge of all: preventing the spread of COVID-19. Penitentiary establishments are more susceptible to infection due to a lack of hygiene material and inhability to implement social distancing measures.
So the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had to get to work fast. But how? By renovating hospital rooms that were out of use for years. The detainees worked around the clock to get the clinic up and running before the virus spread.
Projects like this improve cooperation, solidarity and efficiency in times of crisis. Looking after their health has become everybody's job.
