Thailand: ICRC assists flood-stricken jails

Thailand is experiencing its worst floods in decades, with at least 300 dead and two-thirds of the country affected. The ICRC is supporting the efforts of the prison authorities to cope with the dramatic consequences of the floods. Since mid-October, the ICRC has assisted 30,000 persons in 11 prisons, providing them with much-needed drinking water, food, blankets, first aid kits and hygiene sets. To help protect prisons from the floods, the ICRC has provided some facilities with water pumps and sand bags. ICRC teams are also working with the Department of Corrections to help evacuated detainees let their relatives know where they are.
