Description : As calm returns to northern Cote dIvoire, the ICRC is re-launching life -saving immunization
services for mothers and babies. In some parts of the north, children have not been vaccinated for four years because of the breakdown of health services during the conflict. Polio, which had been eradicated, has returned to the country. Dr Amadou Fadiga, in charge of the ICRC immunization team in the region explains his work at an open-air vaccination session in Dantogo village, Mankono. According to WHO, childhood immunization is one of the best values in health care, providing tremendous benefit at very low cost. It is a near perfect health intervention, preventing disease before it takes root, protecting children when they are most vulnerable and providing them with a healthy start in life.
