To explain the importance of protecting the life and dignity of detainees, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is launching a new communication campaign to raise awareness of the issue. With the public's attention so strongly focused on detention issues, the ICRC felt it had an opportunity to contribute to the general debate.
This initiative aims to encourage people to think about why it is important to treat prisoners of war humanely and the consequences of abuses committed against them. We want people to know that abuse is common in many countries, which is not only immoral, but also detrimental to the security and stability of those countries and beyond.
