Description : Getting aid supplies into the conflict area in Southern Lebanon has been a complicated mission for the ICRC due to security problems and road damages. Roads have been hit which makes narrow and mountainous secondary roads the only option for the ICRC trucks and security is of great concern after both a Lebanese Red Cross ambulance and a Civil Defence Ambulance have been hit. The villages look empty and indeed many of the inhabitants have risked fleeing the area but many are either not willing to take that risk that has cost the lives of numerous fleeing inhabitants due to bombing. Many don’t either have the petrol for
their cars nor the means of paying often high prices for the risky journey. But even if
the streets are empty many cellars are full of families seeking shelter from the bombs
often crowded and with little water, sanitation and food.
