Description :
The renewed fighting in North Kivu has generated around 370,000 displaced people, of which 145,000 have been displaced in the last three months. Though the displaced sometimes manage to find shelter in the houses of friends or families, makeshift camps have been established for others (Goma, Masisi, Kiwanja). The fighting is mainly concentrated in North Kivu, but the effects of the conflict spill over into South Kivu and South Lubero province, as tens of thousands of internally displaced people arrive in search of shelter. These new arrivals, who lost everything during their flight, increase pressure on local infrastructure, such as water resources, local markets and particularly health structures. In view of the great needs, the ICRC is significantly increasing its humanitarian operation in the Kivu provinces. Its action will concentrate on four priority zones particularly affected by the conflict. (Masisi, Ruthsuru, South Lubero and the Goma area) In addition, the ICRC will increase its protection and assistance activities in the north of South Kivu, an area that has witnessed the influx of thousands of families fleeing the conflict in the North.
