Description :
In August 1998, 85-year-old Otari Maraneli had to plead for his life when a soldier pointed his rifle at him during the conflict between Georgia and Russia. His wife and family had fled Tbilisi for their village near Tskhinvali in South Ossetia, but Otari and his friend Konstantin had decided to stay despite their fear. In early September 2008, they were reunited with their friends and family thanks to the Red Cross.
Every year, wars and natural disasters result in the separation of thousands of loved ones, so it's not surprising to learn the fate of their loved ones.
Through their tracing service and the Red Cross message system, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies enable separated people to be reunited or to have news of their loved ones.
