Description :
On May 8, 2009, the "Solferino Bus" set off on a two-month tour of Lebanon. On board, the traveling photo exhibition Our World - At War, designed to show the suffering, pain and misfortune, but also the hopes of war victims from eight countries, including Lebanon.
For two and a half months, the bus continues its tour across the country. Dubbed the "Humanity Bus", it will travel over 1300 kilometers, helping to raise public awareness of the work of the world's largest humanitarian network.
Lebanon is one of eight countries chosen by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to demonstrate the impact of armed conflict on civilians and the need for them to be spared. The ICRC, in cooperation with the Lebanese Red Cross and the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Beirut, has launched a special nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the importance of humanitarian action in countries affected by war, violence, natural disasters or global warming.
As a focal point for these efforts, the bus visited every corner of the country.
In the port city of Batroun, 200 soldiers from the Lebanese army's 10th brigade re-enact the famous battle and evoke the story of Henry Dunant. Dressed in red and white costumes and armed with 19th century rifles, the soldiers confront each other in front of an enthusiastic audience. It is then up to the volunteers of the Lebanese Red Cross to evacuate the fake wounded.
