Description : Women in all countries face serious problems when a family member, especially their husband, is arrested due to armed conflict or other situations of violence. In Mexico, Eva Martinez May faced this reality when her husband was arrested as a result of his participation in the 2006 social mobilisations in the city of Oaxaca. She agreed to tell her story. With great dignity, she recalls her suffering and all the difficulties she had to face throughout the separation.
During her detention, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Eva's husband several times to ensure that the conditions of her detention were in order. The ICRC also reimbursed Eva's travel costs from Oaxaca City to Mexico State, where the prison was located.
