From the very beginning of the disaster, ICRC teams already on the ground in Haiti have been distributing medical aid.
In order to transport personnel and equipment, two planes were chartered and took off from Geneva on 14 January 2010 for Port-au-Prince: the first with eleven delegates on board (engineers, surgeons, agency specialists, economic security, logisticians, IT and communication specialists); the second, a cargo plane, with 40 tonnes of medical and surgical equipment, bags for packing bodies, etc.
