Description :
In the Kivus, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is participating in the evacuation of the war wounded and helping medical staff with heavy surgical operations. For some, receiving emergency medical treatment is now the stuff of miracles, due to the difficulties in gaining access to the conflict zones, not to mention a devastated primary health-care network and direct threats to the wounded and medical staff attending to them. Despite these challenges, more than 200 war wounded have been operated on by ICRC surgical teams in Goma since mid-November 2012. Second in our four-part series on DR Congo
