How can universities help raise awareness of the issue of sexual violence in armed conflict? Based on its reference publication “How does law protect in war?”, the ICRC has designed a key tool to answer this question, in the form of a half-day workshop combining a film, presentations, group work and discussion.The workshop is intended for use in law faculties, as well as in other training programmes. It enables students and teachers to explore the legal and practical issues linked to sexual violence. It focuses on applicable international rules in humanitarian law, human rights law and criminal law, while also addressing some of the causes and consequences of sexual violence and encouraging participants to think about the appropriate humanitarian response.
