Description : The activities of the CTA remain the key element of the International Committee of the Red Cross' (ICRC) work in Cambodia. Tracing is now coordinated on both sides of the border thanks to the relay set up between the ICRC delegation in Thailand and the Red Cross in Phnom Penh. In various camps for displaced persons (Kla Koun, Pong Ro), the ICRC tries to ensure a minimum level of hygiene and medical care. Water reservoirs are carefully controlled, but in spite of abundant rain, it is hard to satisfy the needs in term of drinking water. Delegates endeavour to promote blood donations, while doctors sent by the ICRC train local medical personnel (Pursat hospital). The ICRC also launched a program at the provincial hospital of Mongkol Borei, which became a real social centre. Thanks to a team of technicians, it is regularly supplied with spring water. Moreover, ICRC convoys transporting medical supplies can now cross the border at Aranyaprathet-Poïpet, a welcomed shortcut for essential relief in this country ruined by war.
