Description : In Somalia, the combined effects of drought and war have had in the past months disastrous consequences. In the Keysaney hospital in North-Mogadishu ICRC surgeons and medical teams from the Somalian Red Crescent perform over a hundred surgical operations per week. "Flying doctors" work in rural regions, such as in Doble. International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) relief supplies are brought by air from Kenya or by boat, but the boats often have to be unloaded onto barges offshore because the sea state does not allow them to reach the shore. These food supplies are vital for the displaced population, because the malnutrition rate is tragic. The ICRC has set up community kitchens that enable to feed daily close to 500,000 people and to avoid security problems related to traditional distributions.
