Description :
Detention delegates visit detainees to ensure that they are being treated in a humane fashion. This includes checking that they are being held in acceptable living conditions, can stay in touch with their families and are being treated in accordance with correct judicial processes. Where necessary, detention delegates enter into dialogue with detaining authorities to end any abuse and improve detainees' living conditions, and they support detaining authorities by offering practical services (food, repairs to infrastructure, etc.) and by making the International Committee of the Red Cross' (ICRC) expertise available.
