Description : The eighth edition of the Senior Workshop on International Rules governing Military Operations (SWIRMO) took place in Xi’an, from 21-27 September. A total of 85 participants from 62 countries (including 16 General officers) representing every continent attended the event, which took place within the political academy of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The event was opened by Major General Yan Jun, Deputy Secretary General of the General Political Department of the People’s Liberation Army of China and Yves Sandoz of the ICRC Assembly. Both men had a meeting before the opening ceremony and discussed on the future direction of ICRC-PLA cooperation. Hao Linna, Vice President of the Red Cross Society of China also gave a speech during the opening ceremony. There was considerable interest among existing ICRC Chinese social media followers in the event. The event gave the ICRC a unique opportunity to showcase the Armed and Security Forces programme, in particular to the senior leadership of the General Political Department.
