Description :
Testimonial of Marie-Claire Feghali's, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegate.
The experience that left the deepest impression on me was Yemen. The air raids, for two months… Because you never know when a bomb is going to fall. You don’t know when you’re going to leave, or how you yourself are going to survive, or all the people there, with the shortage of food, of fuel, medicines, doctors… There are shortages of everything.
The day the plane arrived with the surgical equipment, and people were waiting – they so badly needed that plane to arrive – that was one of the happiest days. That day, I was happier than on my wedding day. Another unforgettable one was the day I left Yemen, because it was very difficult… It was difficult.
People have no idea how many people are working to bring a little bit of peace into the middle of all the mess there is in the world. And it’s… It’s great, when you watch TV and you see that everyone’s talking about that war, and then you’ll see a person you may have saved, one time… It’s surreal.
