Description : Months after the fighting subsided in Ramadi, Iraq, its citizens are starting to trickle home. After long periods* spent in camps or ramshackle shelters, many were anxious to re-enter the city and start rebuilding their lives. But the town they are returning to is scattered with explosive remnants of war, destroyed homes, and disrupted water and electric systems. This short b-roll follows Jamal, a father of six, on his family's journey back, hears him describe the conditions they faced while fleeing the violence, and the huge needs, challenges and dangers they face now they are back. Another father shows us what his family house looked like before the violence, and shares his anxiety about what he expects to find amidst its rubble. An ICRC colleague also describes the risks the unexploded weapons pose for the families, and how the organization is helping to raise awareness about the types and dangers of these weapons, and how to clear them safely. While the guns may be silent here now, the work to ensure the city is safe and can provide for its residents is only just beginning.
