Description : 1.8 million children are out of school due to fighting and insecurity in Yemen (source: UNICEF).
Antoine Grand, head of ICRC delegation in Yemen says :
"This is a country that has been under heavy airstrikes for the past twelve-thirteen months. And if you take living in a city like Sana’a, there is no ground fighting but it is a capital city that doesn’t have any running water or electricity for more than a year. Every night children are awakened by airstrikes.
When I accompanied one of our teams to provide assistance to displaced people in the place called Hamidan. Around the village they took us to the school that has been destroy by an airstrike two weeks before . Completely flattened, you could see a lot of debris flying around. Visiting this school with the children that used to go to that school,
fortunately, no one was injured during the airstrike the school was empty. It was children showing us their destroyed school."
