Description :
The geographical environment of the province of Darien and the lack of adequate infrastructure hinder access to basic services, including health care.
In order to contribute to improving the health conditions of the region's inhabitants, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mission in Panama has implemented a Water and Habitat program since 2011, which is based on three pillars : prevention, promotion and health. Through the construction and improvement of housing, access to safer water, sanitation projects and health and hygiene campaigns, the incidence of various diseases has been reduced. The ICRC and the Panamanian Red Cross also support the Ministry of Health of Panama to provide health brigades to Darien communities.
