Description : Every year, hundreds of individuals leave their communities in Mexico and Central America to embark on a journey in search of a better future. As they head north, migrants may lose contact with their families, causing anguish and uncertainty.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in collaboration with the Mexican Red Cross, runs the Restoring Family Links (RFL) program, which offers free phone calls for migrants, helping them to reestablish or maintain contact with their loved ones along the migration route through Mexico.
Antonio Herrera, Mexican Red Cross volunteer and responsible for the RFL program in Celaya, Mexico, explains how a three-minute call can help alleviate the suffering of migrants who are in transit as well as that of their families who have remained in their places of origin.
