In Mexico there is a complex problem of missing persons. According to official figures, the whereabouts of about 30,000 people are unknown. Given such disappointing numbers, it is important that the country's forensic services, which are responsible, among other things, for returning identities to unidentified deceased persons, are aware of the best practices for carrying out their work. This can improve the chances that the remains of unidentified persons are returned to their loved ones and do not end up in mass graves.
The Supreme Court of Justice of Mexico City (TSJCDMX) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organize, for the eighth consecutive year, the National Encounter of Forensic Medical Services. It will be attended by directors of expert services and forensic medical services throughout the country. In addition, in 2017, there will be for the first time representatives of the public ministries, who are responsible for carrying out the investigations. All are united with the intention of promoting coordination, cooperation and shared responsibility in the process of identifying remains and providing care to families.
