Description : As ICRC head of operations for the Americas, Patricia Danzi supervises the work of seven delegations that cover 35 very diverse countries. In this Dispatch, Ms. Danzi, recently in Washington for a round of discussions with US and OAS officials, describes the broad range of ICRC operations in this hemisphere, including the detention visits we carry out at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and our response to the conflict in Colombia. Ms. Danzi also explains why and how we interact with global and regional powers on issues that often cut across national borders. Looking at the future of our action in the Americas, Ms. Danzi speaks about the humanitarian consequences of migration and violence and how these complex issues will continue to shape the work of many key delegations in her region.
