Description : The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, was in Washington DC recently for talks with officials on a range of topics, including the US detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, theunfolding crisis in Yemen, and the ICRC’s ongoing humanitarian concerns in places like Syria, Iraq,Ukraine, South Sudan, andNigeria. During his visit, Mr. Maurer sat down with Intercross to talk about his biggest humanitarian concerns and his views on modern-day humanitarianism, which he says requires redefinition in light of the immediate and long-term challenges resulting from contemporary armed conflicts and violence.
