Description : Around the world, government officials, human rights groups, and aid agencies are grappling with one of the biggest humanitarian challenges in a generation – the so-called global “migrant crisis.”
Next week, they will meet in Istanbul for the World Humanitarian Summit, which seeks - among several goals - to come up with a new approach towards managing forced displacement, with an emphasis on ensuring hope and dignity for the tens of thousands of people fleeing armed conflict, violence, persecution, and poverty – from the Middle East to Central America and beyond.
Ahead of the Summit, the ICRC's President, Peter Maurer, sat down with Intercross to talk about the factors forcing people to flee in the first place and why world leaders should start seeing migration as an opportunity.
