On World Water Day 2017, Pedram Yazdi from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) tells you everything you need to know :
In the dry season, a trench is dug across the river bed. A wall is built from the rocky bottom to the surface of the river. Wells are dug along the river banks. When it rains, water sinks into the soil. The wall slows down water draining from the soil. When the river dries, the soil retains water.
In 2016, 240,000 people in Somalia benefited from ICRC water projects.
