Description :
Around the world, millions of people have to live behind bars, deprived of their freedom. Whatever the reason for their arrest and detention, they have a right to receive news from their loved ones. For those whose freedom is taken away, their family links shall remain.
In Thailand, there are a number of foreigners with limited or no contact whatsoever with their families back home. This is the case of Kantaralak prison, located near the Thai-Cambodian border, where a number of Cambodians are detained.
As the postal service in Cambodia is not functioning throughout the country, the ICRC has offered the Restoring Family Links (RFL) service since 2012. The activity is well appreciated by detainees. After the ICRC's visit in May 2013, the Cambodian Red Cross managed to transmit and collect a big number of replied Red Cross Messages (RCMs) for detainees in the Kantaralak prison.
