Description :
Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima, Brazilian marathon runner and Olympic medalist, is a great example of triumph over challenge. He was leading the marathon in Athens but was interrupted. Finally he won the bronze medal and, thanks to his olympic spirit, was also awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal.
We also see this strong will in the victims of war and violence the ICRC assists in its physical rehabilitation work. Sport is a key tool to transform their lives.
