Description :
Brazil is the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross' (ICRC) regional delegation for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The head of the Regional Delegation, Lorenzo Caraffi, explains how the ICRC's work is in the region and especially in Brazil.
Our work in Brazil focuses on responding to and promoting responses from political leaders to the humanitarian needs of people affected by armed violence. The ICRC fosters IHL and raises awareness of the suffering which family members of missing persons go through, among political leaders and the public. We also provide support and training in the identification of the remains of missing persons (Caso Vala de Perus). The ICRC has an office in São Paulo, and seeks the support of Brazilians, whether for donations or joining the ICRC.
