Description : Do you know what challenges are faced by paramedics ? This is an overview of their work in Egypt.
"Just like physical injuries, there are psychological injuries that are normally invisible. Paramedics are particularly susceptible to this type of injury because of their daily exposure to accidents, disasters and injuries." says Christina Bitar, mental health and psychosocial support delegate, ICRC.
The Egyptian Ambulance Organization (EAO) is a pioneer in the implementation of the “Helping the Helpers” project.
In cooperation with the EAO’s Psychosocial Support Unit, the ICRC is conducting workshops to address psychological injuries and prevent their escalation. Paramedics are provided with self-care techniques in order to enhance their resilience in addition to encouraging paramedics to care for each other within the peer-support approach.
