Description :
As part of its work in places of detention in Israel and the Occupied Territories, the ICRC follows up closely on detainees on hunger strike.
As a neutral and independent organization, the ICRC’s role is to make sure a person's hunger strike is voluntary and that they are fully aware of its consequences on their health. The ICRC helps to ensure that the medical and detaining authorities abide by and respect the detainee's rights and wishes, in line with international regulations and medical ethics.
ICRC delegates also help to make sure that families are kept informed about the well-being of their loved ones or are able to visit them.
This is a series of short clips, in which Raad Al-Husban, ICRC Detention Coordinator, answers questions about hunger-strikes in places of detention. In this video, Raad explains how the ICRC delegate manages the visit to places of detention.
