Description :
JP and Grace left their three-month-old son Daniel to the care of relatives after their arrest in Manila in 2013. Since then, the detained couple would only hear the child's voice on the phone. The couple was jailed in relation to the decades-long conflict between government security forces and armed groups in central Philippines.
Concerns on security and finances prevented JP and Grace's relatives from visiting them at the Samar Provincial Jail. It would take at least 16 hours of travel by bus and ferry from Manila to reach the jail located in Samar province.
Through the International Committee of the Red Cross' (ICRC) family visit program, their much-awaited reunion was made possible in October 2016, allowing JP and Grace to finally hold their son.
