Description :
When civil war erupted in north Yemen in the early 1960's the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) sent medical teams into the desert. Two young British doctors fresh from medical school joined the effort to treat injured soldiers and civilians.
Half a century later, one of the men, Fred Rumpus, recalls his journey with his friend David Rhodes, whose letters to his future wife Jane paint a vivid picture of the difficult conditions faced by those affected by the fighting.
Since that time, the ICRC has remained active in Yemen, continuing to help people affected by conflict.
