Description : More than 4,500 people are still missing in relation to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Their families live with the anguish of not knowing the fates of their loved ones. The desperation to receive any kind of news can clearly be felt while talking to them.
"When they both went missing it was like they never existed," says Simuzar Ibrahimova, mother of two missing brothers, with an empty look in her eyes. For many years now, each approaching car gives birth to the hope that her sons are returning home.
Konul Behbudova says though 25 years have passed since they last saw her brother, her family is still waiting for him. Her family isn't the only one waiting for a missing member to return – other families, with missing people, are also living with the same hope that one day their loved ones will return.
The Accompaniment Program carried out in 2012-2017 by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) aimed at selecting and training accompaniers from families of missing who deliver support to others through various events. Accompaniers still continue organizing commemoration events, home visits to help them relieve their sorrow. "I feel relieved after talking to others," many people say after participating in the events.
Meanwhile, the ICRC continues to support relevant state authorities to clarify the whereabouts and fates of those who went missing in relation to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
