Description :
Three months after the violent community clashes in Yumbi that killed hundreds of people and displaced thousands in early 2019, people in this small territory north of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), are struggling to recover from their trauma.
Thousands of families are still homeless and struggling to feed themselves on a daily basis. Houses and livelihoods were destroyed in violence.
While victims show solidarity with each other to the point of sharing meals, the means to obtain food are now lacking.
From 13 to 18 March 2019, in collaboration with the DRC Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) distributed food to more than 15,000 people through major logistical efforts in this region, which is mainly accessible via the Congo River.
