Description :
On March 24th, 2019, the ICRC's Baghdad delegation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Law professors from around Iraq, concluded the Third Essay Competition in International Humanitarian Law for Students with an oral presentation and defence from short-listed candidates and an awards ceremony for the eventual winners. The Competition was open at two levels – undergraduate and master's – for students of Colleges of Law in public universities in Iraq. It aimed to promote interest and enhance scholarship in IHL among students and deepen their understanding on the humanitarian issue of "The Missing and their Families under International Humanitarian Law" - which was the topic of the competition this year. The winners came from Mosul and Al Nahrain Universities. The competition provided a good opportunity for students to engage in research relating to this important humanitarian issue and its relationship to IHL, outside their classroom. The delegation is currently running the same competition in Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
