Two thirds of the children in Kakenge, in the province of Kasai in the Democratic Republic of Congo, stayed away from school in 2018 because of clashes and intercommunal violence.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has given cash donations to 10,000 families who are victimes of the violence.
Some parents have decided to buy medicine or food. Others have chosen to give their children an education.
