Description : In Al Hol as in some other camps in Syria’s northeast, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) helps restoring or maintaining links for families who have lost touch or been separated due to the conflict. The ICRC has been carrying out these family links services since 2017 - long before the current emergency. The sudden influx of tens of thousands of people, including foreign nationals from every continent (more than 60 countries) speaking more than 20 different languages, to the camps has made the task dramatically more challenging – it is a situation that is unprecedented and something the world has never seen before.
ICRC Spokesperson Mari Aftret Mortvedt give a brief explanation of Red Cross Messages and "Safe and well/I am alive" messages.
