Description :
Since 2009, Maiduguri in North East Nigeria has been at the centre of a conflict that has ripped families apart, leaving many uncertain about the fate of their loved ones who are missing, sometimes for years.
Children are hard hit by this when they are separated from their parents, and in many cases are forced to fend for themselves. In addition to the livelihood challenge, children also have to grapple with the emotional toll that lack of closure brings.
To document their experience and show the world how they have been coping, the International Committe of the Red Cross (ICRC) gave some of them cameras and expert training in photography.
This short film follows Ali, Zainab and Jummai as they embark on the journey to tell their own stories with photography. It's the story of the devastating effects of Nigeria's conflict, told through the lens of three children's cameras.
The Not Forgotten project which gave 8 adolescent teenagers that were separated from their families by the Lake Chad conflict the chance to share their lives with us through their own photographs. Their photographs were exhibited in Abuja under the title Through Their Eyes in combination with photos from another project, Shanty in a Frame.
