Description :
In 2015, as Yemen’s crisis began, doctors were desperately needed. A group of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) medics took a perilous journey. They did a twelve-hour boat trip overnight, the only way to reach war-wounded patients in the city of Aden. Operating theatre nurse Judy was one of them. Since 2015 the need for care has not changed. In fact, the situation has deteriorated: 80% of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance and are poorly prepared to fight COVID-19. 17.8 million people lack access to safe water and can’t wash their hands regularly. 3.7 million people are displaced, living in overcrowded temporary shelters where physical distancing is not possible. Only half of health facilities are working and won’t cope with an influx of COVID-19 patients.
