Description : For over 150 years, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has been helping those in need.
This work rests on three whales. The first and the oldest whale is the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The second one is Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies that exists in almost every country in the world. The third is the Federation of the Red Cross Red Crescent national societies. Each of these whales is special.
International Committee of the Red Cross. When a war breaks out, and people have lost their homes and contacts with relatives, when hospitals are damaged, and there is no water and electricity, the International Committee of the Red Cross comes to rescue. Its role is especially important for visiting people detained due to a conflict and making sure they are treated humanely.
Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. The Red Cross or Red Crescent society of your country can provide first aid trainings or collect blood donations. These are examples of how its staff and volunteers work in times of war and peace. Their support is particularly needed to elderly and disabled people as well as migrants.
International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. In times of serious natural disasters, when a National Society requests international support from other Movement partners the International Federation of the Red Cross Red Crescent national societies takes the lead in organizing support. It raises money for an operation on international level, sends specialists to work on the ground and helps setting working process up.
International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, International Committee of the Red Cross, Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. Three whales of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement work independently but in close coordination and are always ready to give each other a hand. Especially in times of large crises, natural disaster and armed conflict alike, when lots of people are affected and need help. Being a part of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is a big responsibility and a great joy. Because together we can do much more.
