Description :
COVID-19 may have the world's attention but this World Tuberculosis Day, let's also think of those who are suffering from this disease that has afflicted humanity for centuries. Among them are detainees, who often have limited access to health care and live in congested facilities which increases their vulnerability to this disease. Prisoners deserve the same standards of healthcare as are available to the community, and access to health services without discrimination.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been supporting the authorities to address the consequences of jail congestion and advocating for detainees' access to quality healthcare.
Each day, over 4,000 people lose their live to TB globally and close to 30,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease, according to the World Health Organization. It's time to stengthen the implementation of government policies, step up prevention and teratment, to invest in health care workers, and to translate commitments into action to end TB,
