How to use a mask?
To use a mask correctly there are not many rules….but there are a few that you should know.
Wash your hands.
Using a mask with ribbon ties: Hold the mask by the ribbons, put it on your nose, pass the ribbons above the ears, and tie the upper ones, then adjust the mask a bit so that it covers the chin and then tie the lower ribbons.
Using a mask with elastic ear loops: Hold the mask by the elastic ear loops , put the first loop behind your ear, place the mask over your nose and mouth, and then put the second loop behind your other ear, adjust the mask so it sits comfortably on your nose, and pull it down so that it covers your chin.
If it is a surgical mask, be sure to put it on the right way round, with the white side on your mouth, and the metal nose bar on the bridge of your nose.
Make sure that the mask is covering your nose, mouth and chin.
Once the mask is fitted do not touch it anymore.
It’s important to remember that the mask is not magic – it can’t protect you from contracting COVID-19. Continue to follow social distancing guidance even while you wear a mask.
After using a mask, there are some other simple rules to follow. You should not wear the mask around your neck or on your head. You remove the mask by:
Taking off a mask with ribbon ties: Untie the ribbons below, and then the ones above, and remove the mask by the ribbons.
Taking off a mask with elastic ear loops: Put your hands behind your ears, at the bottom of the elastic, and remove the mask while holding both sides of the elastic ear loops.
Once you have taken it off put the mask in a closed container.
If it is surgical mask throw it away in a dustbin and wash your hands.
Material masks should be washed every day in the washing machine at 60 degrees, along with your other washing, or else place in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes. Only use the pot for cleaning your masks.
Be careful about the masks you can buy from street vendors. If you buy a material mask, make sure that it is made with a double layer of material. Do not try it on when you buy it, keep it in a closed container and then wash it, as instructed above, before wearing it.
