Description : The prevalence of sexual violence in Papua New Guinea is overwhelming. As tribal conflicts begin to erupt throughout the highlands of Papua New Guinea, so too does the prevalence of sexual violence. Often when women and girls are walking back to their gardens after being displaced, they may be stopped by men from enemy tribes, taken, beaten and raped.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is working with the Papua New Guinea Ministry of Health, supporting Family Support Centres in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, ensuring that the staff have the resources and training they need to be able to respond to the high rates of sexual violence in the area.
