Description :
In order to support the prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) sector in Lebanon, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has elaborated a benchmark statement with the aim of comparing the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the current situation in Lebanon.
The project started in 2019, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, with the collaboration of the P&O syndicates and with the support of the University of Balamand. This benchmark statement provides recommendations to ensure the improvement of the P&O sector and covers the following four areas: the general policy, products, personnel, and provision of services.
The objective is to work towards the inclusion of people with disabilities and ensure that they are able to live a decent life, on all levels. By undertaking this benchmarking process, Lebanon has already taken the first step to aligning itself with the WHO standards.
