Description :
Here’s a little exercise for you. For the following basic needs, count how many of yours have been met today.
Ready?
Drinking water, food, contact with your loved ones, protection, physical and mental health, hygiene, access to education, play, decent treatment, income and economic security, social inclusion, housing, access to information for example, how to protect yourself from COVID-19.
Okay, so how many?
At the moment, there are more than five million Venezuelan migrants and refugees, many of whose basic needs are not being met. (source: UNHCR).
Migration in Latin America, coupled with the effects of the pandemic, are bringing new humanitarian challenges.
That’s why the International Committee of the Red CRos (ICRC) and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement work in 17 countries in the region, together with communities, humanitarian organizations and the authorities, to meet the needs of migrants and refugees, whether they are passing through or have arrived – as well as the needs of host communities.
Let’s redouble our efforts to support those most in need.
