Description : Chicken remains a very important source of food for people in Gaza. Lately, there has been an uptock in demand for broiler chicken. But the production faces multiple challenges. Extreme weather poses a threat to poultry farmers and their livelihood. Farmes told the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICCR) team that due to hotter and more humid days, the mortality rate of the chickens increased drastically. The ICRC equipped the farms with specific matela sheets to protects them from extreme heat. In addition, 170 farmers received cash grants to cover fodder expenses and sustain their production cycle. The mrtylity rate of the chickens declined from 40% to 5%. This helped poultry farmers in Rafah and Khan Yunis to sustain and increase their income and provide fro their families.
