Description :
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) team first met Ma Than Htay in 2021, as part of a project where she helped produce cloth masks for displacement camps across Rakhine State, Myanmar. Forced to leave her home due to fighting, she later opened a tailor shop at Thar Thana Beman displacement camp in Rathedaung. “I want to go back to my village to stay with my family, altogether. Right now, we can’t go back. We don’t have a house anymore,” said Ma Than Htay. “I was interested in tailoring. My customers are from this camp and sometimes from town.” She received three or four orders every month. But due to economic challenges, people don’t come to her to make clothes. Despite the challenges, Ma Than Htay works hard to support her parents and siblings.
