Description :
Months after his friend's funeral, Pierre still sees Marie in his dreams.
The two young people, who had known each other since the Ivory Coast, saw their friendship grow in Tunisia, more precisely in the town of Sfax where they had settled. They lived under the same roof, managed and helped each other as best they could until the day Marie confided her intention to attempt to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.
A few weeks later, Pierre, who was in Tunis, received a phone call telling him that the boat Marie had boarded had capsized and that several passengers had drowned.
A long process began to identify the remains recovered from the sea and, for Pierre, a long wait and uncertainty about the fate of his friend. It was only when he was presented with photos of the remains that he resigned himself to accepting Marie's death. Thanks to this visual recognition, Pierre will finally be able to mourn.
With the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and volunteers from the Tunisian Red Crescent Society, Pierre went to the grave where the body was buried to pay his respects and say a few prayers. Marie was only 26 years old, but already the mother of three children, whom she left in the care of their grandmother.
As the only contact in Tunisia for Marie's family, Pierre took on the heavy responsibility of informing them of what had happened and keeping them informed of the procedures and steps until the burial of their daughter's remains, a gesture for which the family will be eternally grateful.
