Description :
Following intense clashes in Kayah State, in eastern Myanmar, several thousand people from Loikaw, Demoso, Hpruso and Pekon were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in southern Shan State.
When people are forced from their homes by conflict, they often have to leave almost everything behind. Everyone's humanitarian needs are different.
Alongside the hospitality of host communities -in monasteries, churches or the homes of relatives, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been working with the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) to support people displaced by violence in Pin Laung and Hsi Hseng, to provide emergency aid.
For children, playtime and lessons can help focus their minds and cope withe the challenges.
"We recently completed our second humanitarian trip to Hsi Hseng and Pin Laung.” said Martin Samtan, from the ICRC Lashio team.“
Together with the MRCS, we were able to share rice, peas, oil and salt with nearly 2000 families – to ensure they don’t go hungry.” he added.
Beyond this emergency assistance, we were able to share life-saving information about landmines and other unexploded hazards, which pose ongoing risks to all communities.
The ICRC were also able to share his hotline number for people missing loved ones, separated by clashes or displacement.
Our teams are still on the ground, working with communities affected by conflict and the MRCS to identify and respond to those most urgent needs.
